About

My name is Vivien Clark, I live with my husband and my youngest son in Central Queensland, Australia. I am currently in the last year of my Bachelor of Education (special education) at the University of Southern Queensland but I have been working with children for most of my career, longer than I care to admit. I started in Family Day Care when my own children were little so I could be a stay at home mum. I have also worked for many years in several Queensland schools as a Teacher Aide, also tutoring after school, then a couple of years as a disability support worker. Much of my experience has been with children and adults with additional support needs including my youngest son who is dyslexic (that other kind of normal), a step-son with an intellectual impairment and a step-daughter who also struggles with literacy.

My work with my son in particular has had a profound effect in igniting my passion for inclusive education that inspires critical and creative thinking. I am a strong advocate of using multiple ways of teaching, learning and expressing knowledge and believe that the best thing a teacher can give to their students is a thirst for knowledge and the confidence to reflect creatively and honestly. I use private blogs to motivate and inspire my son and step-daughter, they are spaces we share and showcase our creations such as photographic projects and movie-making.

I regularly blog on Icy Tea – Integrating ICT’s into Special Education Pedagogy  . A site where I reflect on my learning in relation to information, design, and digital technologies and how they can be used and taught in the classroom.
